Queen’s Scholarship Pageant

Rules & Qualifications

 

 

1.      Contestants must be residents of Kerr County.  Contestants may attend any public or private school, as long as their primary residence is in Kerr County.

 

2.      Contestants must be female

 

3.      Contestants must be currently enrolled in grades 9-11 at any accredited public, private , or home school.

 

4.      Contestants must be single, have never been married, and reside with a parent or legal guardian.

 

5.      Contestants must not have, nor never have had a child and they must not be pregnant.

 

6.      Contestants must not have a criminal record.  This includes but is not limited to a misdemeanor (i.e.....minor in possession, driving under the influence, criminal mischief, destruction of property, etc.).

 

7.      Contestants MAY NOT use alcohol; any form of illegal drug, smoke or use tobacco in any form.

 

8.      Contestants must have a passing grade-point average in order to enter the pageant.  Written proof will be required in the form of the contestant’s last report card to be shown to the director of the pageant at the deadline for the sponsorship money.

 

9.      Any contestant who may be related to any Kerr County Fair Association (KCFA) board member will not be allowed to enter the Pageant, unless said Board member agrees to be absent from the board room during discussion of Pageant and Court business.  Said board member may not vote on any matter that concerns the Pageant or Court.

 

10.  Any Queen, Princess, or Duchess who has ever relinquished a crown by choice or who has been asked to relinquish a crown for irresponsibility (not following guidelines) will be barred from participating in any future KCFA Pageants.

 

11.  The Queen may never compete again.

 

12.  Current Princess, Duchess, or Countess may vie in the Queen’s Contest in the succeeding year, if they meet the age requirements.

 

13.  There will be no refund of either the application fee or sponsorship money collected should a contestant willingly withdraw.

 

14.  All applications are subject to acceptance by KCFA Board Members by a majority vote of the members present.  No explanation will be given to the prospective contestant, if denied.  All Board decisions are final.  Should an application be denied, your photo and any fees collected will be returned.

 

15.  With the exception of local service organizations or school functions, Court members may not hold any other title or enter any other Pageant (unless sanctioned by the KCFA Board).

 

16.  Contestants will provide a black and white 5”X7” picture of themselves to accompany the application fee of $10.00.  This photo will be judged for most photogenic.  Please send only one picture for Most Photogenic; the Pageant Coordinator is not responsible for choosing pictures.

 

17.  Contestants will provide sponsorship money of at least $200.00.  This money can come from one or more sources.  Contestant receiving the most sponsorship ($) will receive an additional award.  All sponsorship money and contestant entry fee must be paid by the deadline of October 13, 2008.

 

18.  Contestants will be required to attend pageant rehearsals. All practices will be held at the Hill Country Youth Exhibition Center, unless otherwise specified.

 

19.   Each contestant must submit, in writing (typed is OK as well), an essay of at least 25 words with their application. 

This essay should state:

1.      What they think being a member of the queen’s court means to them.

2.      Why they would make a good court member.

3.      Why they want to serve as a member of the KCFA Queen’s Court.

Contestants will present this essay to the judges, with which the judges will choose the best essay for an additional prize.  The winner will present their essay during the Pageant Ceremonies.

 

20.  Contestants will participate in the Kerr County Fair Parade that will be held on Saturday, October 225, 2008 at 10:00 a.m.  Parade entry may consist of anything the contestant wishes, as long it is with good taste. (Decorated car, decorated trailer, animals, any other imaginative designs)

 

21.  Each contestant will meet with each judge for an interview on Saturday, October 25, 2008.   Contestants should dress in “Sunday, Church” attire, flip-flops and toe shoes are not recommended.

 

22.  Contestants are required to wear formal attire for the evening gown competition.

 

23.  Contestants are financially responsible for their own wardrobe.  This includes the pageant and the Queen’s Court if chosen.

 

24.  The newly chosen Queen and her Court agree to participate in parades, attend civic functions, have fundraisers, and attend Queen’s Court meetings.  Failure to complete the required events will result in removal from the Queen’s Court and will jeopardize scholarship awards.

 

25.  Events occur after the coronation that must be attended by members of both the newly crowned court and the preceding court.  Members of each court agree to participate in the events of the succeeding year, those events include the pageant, Kerr County Fair activities, parades, and other civic and community activities as scheduled..

 

26.  KCFA appoints a sponsor(s) for the reign of the Queen and her Court.  This sponsor(s) is also in charge of the Queen’s Scholarship Pageant and will serve as Pageant Coordinator.  The Sponsor(s) is responsible for your representation of Kerr County; there fore decisions concerning proper action is under the control of the sponsor(s).

 

27.  The KCFA accepts no responsibility for any personal injuries while at any KCFA function.  The below signature holds as an agreement to the Rules and Qualifications for the Kerr County Fair Association’s Scholarship Pageant and hereby waive, release, or discharge any and all claims of injuries to my person, including death, to KCFA and/or any Board Member.
